Social Studies

The Social Studies Contest consists of 45 objective questions and an essay. Students are expected to master primary reading selections, as well as specific documents, and to be familiar with general-knowledge social studies concepts and terms. Each year, the contest focuses on a different topic area and a reading list that is provided by UIL.
For 2016 2017 the book is Lenin’s Tomb The last days of the Soviet Empire by David Remnick The Social Studies team will compete in two local UIL contests, normally at Pine Tree and Hallsville. Followed by District competition. In addition to these two contests the team members will take a series of tests competing against each other for positions on the team. The top four participants will make the four-person team with one alternate. The Social Studies team has been District Champions two of the last three years, but understand continued success is dependent on you, and your dedication to studying both the book and the supplemental material.
